Veterans Patrice Bergeron, 37, and David Krejci, 36, will be without contracts and on the verge of retirement. David Pastrnak and Jeremy Swayman could be without contract extensions and due for significant pay raises. And now a new implement has risen on Brad Marchand's contract that could cause even more questions for management.
This summer marks the end of a Full No-Movement Clause (NMC) that the two sides agreed upon when Marchand signed his 8-year, $49 million contract in 2016. He'll have to provide the Bruins with a list of six teams he would be willing to be traded to. The Bs are unlikely to trade him, but if they decide on a rebuild, Marchand should provide an excellent return.
Marchand's salary will be just $2,000,000 with bonuses totalling $3,000,000 plus. After 2022-23, the list grows to a 15-team no-trade list, but in the final year of the deal, the list changes back down to eight teams. The cap hit stays the same throughout the deal.
With three years remaining on his $6,125,000 contract, you could probably guess that any team in the NHL would love to have him. It's highly unlikely that the Bruins will trade Marchand, especially with a core including Charlie McAvoy, Taylor Hall, Hampus Lindholm, and hopefully both Pastrnak and Swayman.
However, it gives Don Sweeney and co more things to think about.
