In the Washington Capitals 3-2 overtime win over the Ottawa Senators Thursday night, Ovie put his name in first place on an all-time leaderboard.
As per NHL Public Relations:
* Alex Ovechkin concluded the contest with six shots on goal and boosted his career NHL totals to 6,211. He moved past Ray Bourque (6,209) for sole possession of the most by an NHL skater since shots by player were consistently tracked beginning in 1959-60.
Looking at that list, Bourque and Ovechkin are far ahead of third place, and Ovie still has at least three more seasons in the league.
Ovechkin has averaged 385 shots in his career, with the most being 528 in one season (2008-09).
