Blake Wheeler of the Winnipeg Jets is set to miss a significant amount of time after taking a puck to the groin Thursday night.

Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman shared head coach Rick Bowness' update on the veteran forward:

''WIN coach Rick Bowness announces Blake Wheeler out at least one month needed surgery after taking shot to groin Thursday. Bowness (and everyone else) marvels how Wheeler stayed in game...''

Somehow, the 36-year-old finished the game after the injury, which did not go unnoticed by his teammates, especially Bowness:

''Incredible he played the third period through that injury. He's one tough cookie,» said Bowness.''

The former Bruin is enjoying a bounceback season with nine goals and 17 assists in 29 games. Wheeler had his captaincy stripped this offseason after a terrible all-around 2021-22 from the Winnipeg squad.

It turns out that this isn't the first time that Wheeler put his ''nether regions'' on the line to block a shot.
