As we all know by now, Boston Bruins captain Patrice Bergeron is officially the winner of the 2022 Frank J. Selke Trophy, which goes to the NHL's best defensive forward.

This season marks the 11th straight year that Bergeron was one of the three finalists, and it is also the fifth time that the Bs captain has won the award for an NHL record.

Since the Selke Trophy was first awarded following the 1977-78 NHL season, 27 different players have captured the honour, including nine who have won it multiple times. Bergeron now sits atop that list, breaking a five-year-long tie that he held with Montreal Canadiens legend Bob Gainey (who won the Selke from 1978 to 1981).

The Boston Bruins released a video to honour Patrice Bergeron's record-breaking accomplishment:

This was a statement released by the NHL on Bergeron's stats for the season:

"Bergeron ranked first in the NHL in nearly every defensive metric, including faceoff wins (991), faceoff win percentage (61.9%), shot attempts allowed per 60 (40.4), Corsi for percentage (65.58), expected goals against per 60 (1.56), shot share (67.23), scoring chances against per 60 (18.85), high-danger attempts per 60 (6.26), and shots for per 60 (48.47)."
