Last week, rumours began to leak that Zdeno Chara was close to announcing his retirement, even though earlier reports were that the longtime NHL defenseman was taking his time with his decision.
"Big Z" still remains an unrestricted free agent and played with the New York Islanders last season in his 24th NHL season.
It was rumoured that after a disappointing 2021/2022 that Chara felt he could no longer compete at the highest level. But according to Joe McDonald of the Worcester Telegram and Gazette, those reports are premature and no decision has been made.
As per McDonald:
"Reports that Zdeno Chara is retiring are premature at this point. No decision has been made."
