The Boston Bruins have extended Mark Kastelic, who arrived with Joonas Korpisalo from Ottawa. The deal has paid off, as the tough guy has just been extended by the Bruins.

While the loss of Linus Ullmark continues to be felt throughout the organization, the Bruins have made a smart decision to acquire Mark Kastelic.

Kastelic has performed far above expectations in the team's bottom-six., this season the forward has scored 12 points(4 G, 8 A) in 41 games.

Not only does he have offensive upside, but as a bottom-six forward has made the ice contentious for the opposing team, as he's accumulated 158 hits this season.

The Bruins made the effort to extend him another three seasons with a cap hit of $1.5 Million AAV.

He has undoubtedly cemented himself as an important player on the Bruins, and at just 25 years old, he still has time to improve even more.

Players like Kastelic seem like a dime-a-dozen as they're usually late-round draft picks who aren't expected to grow into NHLers.

But in 2022-2023 he started to solidify himself as a bottom-six forward in the Ottawa Senators organization.

In 2023-2024 he wouldn't be sent down to AHL Belleville, but would suit up for 65 games, and score 10 points( 5 G, 5 A) a mark he's eclipsed under the Bruins this season.

«I'm very, very happy to have another three years after this one, and it's a big honor,» Kastelic told reporters in Toronto this morning. «Ever since I got here, it just felt like home. The guys in this room have been unbelievable to me. It's really a big family. I'm just very ecstatic to be here.»

Kastelic plays the kind of hockey GM Don Sweeney likes, the bruising style who clogs up the passing lanes and demolishes their opponents.

He plays a heavy game and fits into the Bruins culture well, despite his lack of offensive production.

«We recognize the value that he brings to our club,» Bruins interim head coach Joe Sacco said. «A physical player, he shows up every night. He's a great pro. He's a culture builder for our organization. He does everything that's asked of him. He sticks up for his teammates when he needs to. It's a great signing. I'm really happy for him. It's certainly well deserved.»

It is a well-earned contract for Kastelic, and could be a big part of the Bruins for years to come.
