Adidas is the largest clothing manufacturer in Europe and the second-largest in the entire world behind Nike.
The brand replaced Reebok as the NHL's jersey manufacturer at the start of the 2017-18 season.
News broke Monday afternoon that Adidas is being sued in the state of Florida for marketing their jerseys from third-hand vendors such as fanatics.com as "authentic."
The lawsuit states that the NHL team jerseys being sold are better described as replicas, different from those worn by actual NHL players.
It's not a good look for the popular clothing brand and seems like a problem that could've easily been avoided.
There are significant differences between the jerseys NHL players have to wear and the ones fans would pay for, for example, the tie-down straps that players are required to wear.
Rick Westhead, a journalist for TSN and CTV and contributor to the New York Times, broke the news on his Twitter early this afternoon.
