Boston Bruins' rookie named AHL Player of the Week after two career pro games

The Boston Bruins were busy after the NCAA season ended, and college free agents were available to sign.

Bruins' general manager, Don Sweeney, signed three highly touted youngsters out of the NCAA: Marc McLaughlin, Georgi Merkulov and Brandon Bussi.

The early results are very much in Boston's favour. All three free-agent signings have made immediate impacts. McLaughlin moved straight to the NHL and has three goals in his seven career games, while Merkulov and Bussi have shined in the AHL for the Providence Bruins.

Goaltender Brandon Bussi played his first two career AHL games this past weekend and started off hot. In two games, Bussi is 2-0-0, with a 0.96 goals-against-average and a .964 save percentage. Including a 26 save shutout in his second career game against the Hershey Bears.

Because of Bussi's performance over the weekend, he was awarded with AHL Player of the Week honours:
