Boston University announced in March that head coach Albie O'Connell would not be returning to the club next season. Former Bruin, Jay Pandolfo is reportedly leading the list of candidates.

Pandolfo is a native of Winchester, Massachusetts, and was a Boston University standout during his time spent with the Terriers from 1992 to 1996.

In four seasons at BU, Pandolfo collected a total of 169 points (79 goals and 90 assists). He was a Hobey Baker Award finalist as a senior in 1996, after recording 38 goals and 29 assists and was also an instrumental part of the Terriers' 1995 national championship. Pandolfo helped lead the Terriers to four straight Frozen Fours, two Beanpot titles and two Hockey East championships.

Pandolfo was drafted by the New Jersey Devils in the second round (32nd overall) of the 1993 NHL Entry Draft. In his 13 seasons with the Devils, he collected 99 goals and 124 assists for 223 points in 899 games. He also appeared in 131 postseason games with New Jersey, recording 11 goals and 22 assists and won the Stanley Cup in 2000 and 2003 with the club.

Pandolfo parted ways with the Devils after the 2009-10 season and signed a one-year deal with the New York Islanders in 2011-12. He would eventually end his NHL career playing 18 games for his hometown Boston Bruins but unfortunately recorded zero points and announced his retirement on January 30th, 2014.

Pandolfo immediately joined the Bruins as a development coach and stayed in that role until May 14th, 2016, when he was promoted to assistant coach. He held that role until July 2021, when he left the Boston Bruins to be an assistant coach with Boston University.

The first reports were that Pandolfo was not interested in the head coaching job, but they were false, and he is indeed very interested. Those reports were false, as he is very much interested and the announcement could come as early as today, barring any significant changes on either end.
