The Montreal Canadiens have officially chosen who will be the club's next captain.

Head coach Martin St. Louis announced the news before the start of the team's annual golf tournament at Laval-sur-le-Lac Golf Club.

As per Canadiens PR:

'Montreal Canadiens General Manager Kent Hughes announced on Monday the appointment of Nick Suzuki as the 31st captain in team history. The decision was made by the club's hockey management personnel.'

Nick Suzuki, 23, becomes the 31st, and youngest, captain in franchise history, following Shea Weber who most recently held the captaincy from 2018 to 2022.

Suzuki was originally selected 13th overall by the Vegas Golden Knights in the 2017 NHL Entry Draft. He was sent to Montreal in the trade for Max Pacioretty, who was the Canadiens captain at the time.

In 209 career games, Suzuki has recorded 49 goals and 94 assists, along with 23 points in 32 postseason games.
