Montreal Canadiens legend, Guy Lafleur passes away at 70

The hockey world has lost yet another legend and Hockey Hall of Fame Member to cancer.

Guy Lafleur, an icon in Quebec and for the Montreal Canadien, passed away early Friday morning at the age of 70 after losing his battle with lung cancer.

He began his NHL career in 1971 and became an important piece to the Canadiens dynasty of the1970s when the club won five Stanley Cups. Lafleur was the first player in NHL history to score 50 goals in six consecutive seasons and 50 goals and 100 points in six straight seasons.

Lafleur leads the Canadiens all-time with 1,246 points, 728 assists and 94 game-winning goals. Over his career, he won the Hart Trophy twice, the Art Ross Trophy three times, and the Ted Lindsay Award and Conn Smythe Trophy once. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1988.

The Flower was named one of the 100 greatest players by the NHL as part of its centennial celebration in 2017.
