This morning, the Calgary Flames acquired forward Tyler Toffoli from the Montreal Canadiens, in exchange for a first and fifth round draft pick, forward prospect Emil Heinemann, and bottom-six forward Tyler Pitlick.
Toffoli is a quality winger on a solid contract, which carries additional value in today's NHL. Signed to $4.25M per year for the next two seasons, Toffoli is known for his goal scoring prowess, racking up 28 goals in 52 games last year.
The trade marks the first of what should be a busy trade deadline season for the Habs. As their nightmare season continues, with only 8 wins so far on the season, the Habs will look to offload more players with value to boost their rebuild.
The Bruins potentially missed out on a quality secondary scoring option to help with could be Bergeron's last playoff push, though there was no guarantee that the Habs would have moved Toffoli to a division rival. Look out for the B's to make a trade in the next couple weeks to strengthen their roster for the playoffs.
