The NHL has just announced the 32 nominees for the 2021-22 King Clancy Memorial Trophy and the Boston finalist shouldn't come as a surprise to anyone.
As per the NHL website, the award is presentend annually to the player who best exemplifies leadership qualities on and off the ice and has made a noteworthy humanitarian contribution in his community.
The nominees are selected by their respective NHL teams, while the official winner is chosen by a committee of senior NHL executives that includes Gary Bettman and Bill Daly.
The selection committee will apply the following criteria in determining the finalists and winner:
* Clear and measurable positive impact on the community
* Investment of time and resources
* Commitment to a particular cause or community
* Commitment to the League's community initiatives
* Creativity of programming
* Use of influence; engagement of others
The winner will receive a $25,000 donation that he can award to one or more charities of his choice, while the two runners-up each receive a $5,000 donation to benefit the charities of their choice.
Nick Foligno is this year's Bruins finalist for the prestigious award. The winger, who won the same award back in 2016-17 as a member of the Columbus Blue Jackets, is looking to bring the Trophy back to Boston for the first time since 2012-13, when Patrice Bergeron was named the winner.
Boston Bruins players have won the King Clancy Trophy three times since it was created back in 1988;
