The Boston Bruins' third line was the team's weakest line in their 5-1 loss in game one to the Carolina Hurricanes.
The third line of Trent Frederic, Charlie Coyle and Craig Smith has been struggling since the beginning of April. The line has a combined for just 6 goals and 8 assists in 15 regular-season games and one playoff game.
The Bruins' top line of Brad Marchand, Patrice Bergeron and Brad Marchand had the top Expected Goals Percentage out of any line in last night's game, at 77%. Even the fourth line was up there too, at 50%. The issue was the third line, as they had no shots for and eleven shots against through two periods.
Coyle talked about what his line had to get back to to be successful:
"We just have to be hard on the puck and win our battles. I think a little tighter support all over the ice, especially breaking out. They [Carolina] do a good job of being over and initiating right away, and there's not a lot of time and space. We have to support better. Just talk and play onto the puck down there [offensive zone]."
