As time was winding down in game one between the Boston Bruins and the Carolina Hurricanes, things got a little testy right before the final horn.
Boston was down 5-1, which was obviously the final score, and with six seconds left, Bruins' forward Trent Frederic threw a late hit at Hurricanes defenseman Brendan Smith. Then he proceeds to skate away, and teammate Curtis Lazar gets stuck with the rough stuff.
In all honesty, though, was the hit even that bad? It seems like Smith was definitely unsuspecting of the hit and went down easier than Frederic expected. Of course, that's Frederic's game as well, to get under the skin and into the heads of opposing players. I don't see anything wrong with it because of the fact that it's a best of seven playoff series against the same team.
However, the Hurricanes broadcast thought it was the dirtiest hit ever! Watch the entire play below:
It just makes for a little more animosity for game two on Wednesday!
