The 2021-22 NHL season was the hardest of David Pastrnak's still young career.

Not because he got injured during the season or that the Boston Bruins were eliminated in the first round of playoffs, but because of the tragedy he and his girlfriend went through in June of 2021.

Pastrnak and his girlfriend Rebecca Rohlsson have been together since 2018, and in January of 2021, the couple announced that they were expecting their first child. Their son, Viggo Rohl Pastrnak, was born on June 17th, 2021 and sadly passed away just six days later on June 23rd, 2021.

David posted this touching tribute on his personal Instagram on June 28th, 2021, with the caption:

"Viggo Rohl Pastrnak
June 17th 2021 - June 23rd 2021
We have an Angel watching over us and we call him SON. You will be loved FOREVER"
Please respect our privacy as we are going through these heartbreaking times."

The entire hockey world showed their love and support for David and Rebecca after the tragic announcement. Including a post from the National Hockey League's Player Association (NHLPA) which read:

"The players and staff of the NHLPA extend their deepest condolences to David Pastrnak and Rebecca Rohlsson on the loss of their newborn son, Viggo."

As the Boston Bruins were cleaning out their lockers after the official end to their 2021-22 season, Pastrnak discussed how hard the season really was. He's visibly holding back tears when asked about the year he's had:

"[It's] been a tough year overall for me. I want to turn the page pretty much as quickly as I can. [We] are in a very much better place than we were months ago. I mean, yeah, it was tough. Glad it's over and [we're] feeling better now."

It's tough seeing him like that as it puts things into perspective of what some of these players go through off the ice that fans easily forget about. The fact that he went out and scored 40 goals and had another incredible season is quite impressive after what he and his girlfriend went through.

Huge respect for Pasta, forever!
