Former Boston Bruins head coach Don Cherry is a native of Kingston, Ontario.

Where formerly projected number one pick Shane Wright played his junior hockey in the OHL.

On his Grapevine Podcast', Cherry gave his thoughts on Wright dropping to fourth overall.

''I watched the draft and I'm absolutely in shock. Shane Wright goes 4th, I mean that is unbelievable to me. I hope this Kent Hughes knows what he's doing cause he's going to get all the blame.''

'I was absolutely shocked, shocked is the word, that they didn't pick Shane Wright. I still think he's the number one.''

'I'll tell you one thing, Kent Hughes better be right on this [Slafkovsky]. He better be right on him because they will be waiting for him, those fans are tough down there''

Cherry has always been very opinionated and well-known to have a preference for Canadian and U.S. born players.

However, in this case he could end up being Cherry correct. If Shane Wright ends up being the best player from the 2022 draft, there will be questions for years to come. A choice like this could drastically impact the path of the Canadiens rebuild.''
