NHL referees have been one of the main talking points of the 2022 Stanley Cup playoffs so far.
Last night, in game two between the Edmonton Oilers and Calgary Flames, referee Chris Lee made his case to be canned by the NHL. On separate occasions, Lee was completely out of position to take away a goal from both the Oilers and the Flames.
First was an early whistle on what would have tied the game at 2-2 late in the first period, but Lee stopped play when the puck was never actually covered:
That first blown call didn't entirely ruin the game, as Edmonton did eventually tie it up. However, when the game was tied, he prematurely blew the whistle once again, this time on what would've been the 4-3 goal for the Flames:
During and after the game, fans across Twitter were calling for Chris Lee to be cut from the Stanley Cup playoffs referee roster:
Chris Lee was also on the hot seat during last year's postseason when his calls were clearly going against the Montreal Canadiens in the Conference Finals matchup against the Vegas Golden Knights.
