Here are the current standings in the East:
Currently, the playoff matchups look like this:
A1 Florida Panthers vs W2 Washington Capitals
M1 Carolina Hurricanes vs W1 Boston Bruins
A2 Tampa Bay Lightning vs A3 Toronto Maple Leafs
M2 New York Rangers vs M3 Pittsburgh Penguins
If the Bruins stay a Wild Card team, the most likely opponents they'd face in the opening round are the Carolina Hurricanes or Florida Panthers.
However, the Lightning, Maple Leafs and Bruins are separated by just three points in the overall standings, and either team could fall to that Wild Card spot come playoff time.
Improbable, but the Bruins could technically face any team in the Eastern Conference at the moment.
The Atlantic and Metro still have two or three teams that could win the division, so any playoff matchup is still up in the air.
Seven of the NHL's Top-10 teams are in the East. So, no matter the turnout, the Bruins will get a tough opponent in the first round!
