Matthew Tkachuk shocked the hockey world by forcing a trade from the Calgary Flames earlier this off-season.

In response, general manager Brad Treliving pulled off the biggest blockbuster in recent years by sending the 24-year-old to the Florida Panthers in exchange for Jonathan Huberdeau and MacKenzie Weegar.

However, there's reportedly a hidden detail that led to Tkachuk's departure from Calgary, besides his friend and linemate, Johnny Gaudreau, leaving for the Columbus Blue Jackets via free agency.

According to his former Flames teammate Adam Ruzicka, Tkachuk had priorities set for his future in Calgary. He felt disrespected when that wasn't the direction the Flames wanted to go.

Ruzicka joined former NHLers Boris Valabik and Marian Gaborik's podcast:

''I don't know what else played a role there, but he really insisted on becoming a captain, and think they couldn't fulfill that request which played a big role in him leaving.''
