The NHL pre-season officially started with a game between the Ottawa Senators and Toronto Maple Leafs this afternoon. The Leafs defeated their provincial rivals 4-1, but NHL insider Elliotte Friedman's comments post-game are what stole the show.
Friedman changed the subject to the trade rumours revolving around Arizona Coyotes star defenseman Jakob Chychrun, and he dropped some juicy news on the subject.
As per Friedman:
''It's never been closer; the Sens are the closest to acquiring him. I believe a prospect Arizona has wanted is Shane Pinto.'' Senators general manager Pierre Dorion has reportedly been desperately searching for a defenseman all summer long, and his focus is down to Chychrun. The ask is apparently top prospect Shane Pinto, and Friedman also stated that Ottawa has no interest in moving him.
