Jim Montgomery has only been the head coach of the Boston Bruins for 21 games now, but the team is 18-3-0, and the new bench boss has the team on a whole new level.

Even though he's only appeared in eight games this season, Montgomery has had a front-row seat for all of them to see what Charlie McAvoy brings to the table.

Friday's game was a prime example of what the defenseman brings every single night. Even though zero points and one shot, McAvoy turned up the intensity physically against the Hurricanes, most notably on star winger Evgeny Svechnikov.

After that, the team seemed to play a completely different game and came back from 2-0 to win a 3-2 thrilling overtime game. Bridgette Proulx of WEEI shared what Montgomery said about McAvoy post-game:

''He's got God given talent and the heart of a lion.''

McAvoy has two goals, eight assists, a plus-five rating, ten hits and has averaged 21:51 of ice time per game.
