The pandemic appears to be all but over (knock on wood), but several people across the world are still feeling the effects, even professional athletes.

That includes longtime NHLer Brandon Sutter, whose career may be over due to the lingering effects of COVID-19, which he contracted more than a year ago.

As per Ben Kuzma of 'The Province':

"Basically, I've been left with a lot of different things ... With my lungs and my breathing and any exertion, I just can't do it. I stop and feel like I have to cough something out and just feel like I can't get oxygen into my body."

"I was also having gastrointestinal issues, but I'm 100 percent better than I was a year ago. But I still can't train or work out. When I take it easier, I'm OK. When I do too much, it just crushes me."

Sutter was drafted in the first round (11th overall) by the Carolina Hurricanes at the 2007 Entry Draft.

The Huntington, New York native, has appeared in 770 career games with the Hurricanes, Pittsburgh Penguins and most recently, the Vancouver Canucks. In that span, the veteran has recorded 152 goals and 137 assists for a total of 289 points.
