The New York Islanders and general manager Lou Lamoriello are the only team in the NHL to not sign any free agents this off-season.
Over the course of the summer, the club was linked to top free agents Johnny Gaudreau and Nazem Kadri, without being able to either guy.
Lamoriello spoke to the media today attempting to defend his lacklustre off-season:
''Sometimes some of the best transactions you make are the ones you don't make.''
The veteran GM continued:
''There's no disappointment where we're at because we feel very good about who we are, or we would have made drastic changes [this off-season]. We're looking forward to getting back at it and maybe proving everybody wrong''
Lou continued to try to spin it to look as though the Islanders down season was a fluke and not the real version of the team.
Another important factor to remember is that Lamoriello made one of the most controversial moves after last season when relieved head coach Barry Trotz of his duties.
