The newest Dallas Stars forward, Mason Marchment, has been through a lot the last month.
The 27-year-old became an unrestricted free agent on July 13th after a career year with the Florida Panthers.
Unfortunately, his father and former NHL defenseman, Bryan Marchment, suddenly passed away on July 6th, a day before the draft. He was a scout for the San Jose Sharks at the time of his death.
Through all the bad news, Mason was able to secure a four-year, $18 million contract ($4.5 million AAV) with the Stars on the opening day of free agency.
Marchment has also found the perfect way to honour his late father:
His has chosen new number to debut for the 2022-2023 season, as he will wear #27 for his father, who wore that number for the majority of his long NHL career.
