He has one of the most intriguing paths to the NHL that you've ever seen!

Kodie Curran isn't your typical NHLer. The 32-year-old blueliner signed his first NHL contract at age 30 and has yet to play in an NHL game since.

Born and raised in Calgary, Alberta, Curran played four seasons of Junior A hockey with the Calgary Canucks of the Alberta Junior Hockey League. Undrafted in the NHL, he then went on to play for the University of Calgary.

In his five seasons with the program, he was twice named to the CIS First All-Star Team. From there, he signed a contract to play for the AHL's Hartford Wolf Pack but was quickly sent down to the ECHL.

The following season, Curran signed a pro contract to go play in Denmark's top division. In his lone season with the Esbjerg Energy hockey club, he was nothing short of dominant; Curran was named a league all-star and finished the season with the most goals (10) and most points (33) for a defenseman.

He took his team all the way to Danish Championship, averaging one-point per game in the playoffs. His play caught the attention of many scouts and he was quickly offered a contract to play in Norway's top division the next season.

New team, same results for Curran.

The defenseman was even better in 2017-18. He led the Norwegian League in +/- (+51), was named to the all-star team and won the Player of the Year award. But Curran was equally as good in the post-season, leading his club to a title while being named Playoffs MVP.

From there Curran was signed to one of the top leagues in the world, joining Rogle BK of the Swedish Hockey League. And guess what? The blueliner excelled once again.

He led the SHL in goals for a defenseman in his first season there with 12, but truly blossomed during his 2019-20 campaign with Rogle. He'd finish that season as both the SHL's Defenseman of the Year and the SHL's Most Valuable Player. He led all defenseman in scoring with 49 points and 37 assists.

What a wild ride Curran has been on during his career. Hopefully the Bruins give him a taste of the NHL in the coming weeks so we can see what this guy is all about!
