While rumours continue to swirl that the Montreal Canadiens will be looking to sign Jake Allen to a long-term contract extension, it's another Montreal Canadiens player that put pen to paper. This morning the Canadiens and former top prospect Cayden Primeau announced he'd signed a 3-year deal with the team.

The deal will pay Primeau $890,000 per year. The contract is a one-way deal which shows the Habs expect Primeau to make the jump to the NHL full-time.

Primeau was once viewed as the player who would be the heir apparent to Carey Price, but the 23-year-old has only appeared in 18 career games. His record is 3-10-2, but most concerning is Primeau's goals against average which is 4.62 while his .868 save percentage also isn't near good enough.

With another year of the rebuild, the Canadiens may be betting big on Primeau's development or hoping he stays status quo and helps them increase their odds of drafting Connor Bedard.
