The NHL Player Safety has handed out it's first disciplinary action of the year last night following the aftermath of a brawl in the Montreal Canadiens, and Toronto Maple Leafs game.

Montreal Canadiens defenseman Arber Xhekaj has been fined $ 3,385.42, the maximum allowable under the CBA, for unsportsmanlike conduct.

The fine came from a retaliation hit that Toronto Maple Leafs forward Cedric Pare made on Montreal Canadiens forward Patrik Lanie.

Patrik Laine would end up leaving the game and not coming back.

Some Montreal Canadiens fans have set up a gofundme to help Xhekaj pay off the fine.

Patrik Lanie was seen leaving the game last night with a knee brace on, and on crutches. Lanie was set for a fresh start with the Montreal Canadiens, after dealing with a lot of injuries, and just like that he could be out for awhile due to a dirty hit.

Do you think Arber Xhekaj did the right thing sticking up for his teammate?
