The first week saw some incredible performances, including David Pastrnak (1G, 3A) and David Krejci (1G, 3A) of the Boston Bruins. However, it appears as though the two B's had a few other players around the league edge them out of the top three.
Here are the NHL's three stars from week one:
Third Star: Jake Oettinger -Dallas Stars
Oettinger went 2-0-0 with a 1.00 GAA and .968 SV% as the Stars opened the season with two wins over the Nashville Predators. The 23-year-old stopped 60 of the 62 shots he faced this week. 31 saves in a 4-1 win on October 13th in Nashville and 29 in a 5-1 win in the Stars' home opener on October 15th.
Second Star: Connor McDavid - Edmonton Oilers
Probably not the first time we'll see McDavid in the NHL's three stars of the week. The Oilers captain finished the week with 5 points (4G, 1A), including his second career opening night hat trick, following only Cam Neely and Brendan Shanahan in doing so. McDavid became the sixth fastest player in NHL history to reach 700 career points, accomplishing it in just his 488th career game.
First Star: Sidney Crosby - Pittsburgh Penguins
''Sid the Kid'' isn't exactly a kid anymore, but he's still got it. Crosby opened up the season with 6 points (2G, 4A) in two games, leading the league. In his 18th season with the Penguins (most in franchise history) is now just 4 assists away from 900. He passed Phil Housley for sole possession of 20th place on the assists list and Doug Gilmour for 19th place on the points list.
