May 13th, 2013. One of the most iconic days in the deep history of the franchise that is the Boston Bruins.

Nine years ago today, the Boston Bruins became the first NHL team to win game seven of a Stanley Cup Playoff series after trailing by three goals in the third period. They rallied to defeat the Toronto Maple Leafs by a score of 5-4 in overtime at TD Garden and win their Eastern Conference Quarterfinal series.

The Maple Leafs led 4-1 when forward Nazem Kadri scored 5:29 into the third period. The Bruins Nathan Horton made it 4-2 at 9:18 of the third, but it still felt like the Maple Leafs had complete control of the game. That was until Boston pulled their goaltender Tuukka Rask for an extra attacker with just two minutes remaining.

Not only did the Maple Leafs not hit the empty net in the entire two minutes, the Bruins got sixth-attacker goals by Milan Lucic at 18:38 and Patrice Bergeron at 19:09 to tie the game 4-4, and send it to overtime.

And we all know how it ended! Patrice Bergeron capped off the comeback when he beat Toronto goaltender James Reimer at 6:05 of the first overtime.

Re-watch the complete highlights of the incredible comeback here:

And both teams will be playing a game seven on Saturday with a chance to move onto the second round of the 2022 Stanley Cup Playoffs. Will the Leafs blow it again?
