On this day in Boston Bruins history, the Bruins eliminated the Montreal Canadiens in the 2011 first-round playoff series in overtime of game seven.

It was probably the two rival's most intense series of recent memory, besides their 2014 Eastern Conference Semifinal that went seven games favouring the Canadiens.

The 2011 series was a start to Boston's run to the Stanley Cup Final, in which they defeated the Vancouver Canucks in seven games to capture their sixth championship in franchise history. It was also the Bruins' last Stanley Cup.

Game seven against the Canadiens in 2011 was an instant classic. The Bruins went up 2-0 early, Montreal rallied back to tie it, and when Boston had another lead late in the third period, the Canadiens would tie it up with just under two minutes to go.
