Orr was a trailblazer in his play style, and he literally changed how the game was played from the backend. The 1973-74 season was no different for the Bruins defenseman, as he set league history on this day 49 years ago.
As per author Mike Commito:
Orr finished that season with 32 goals and 90 assists in 74 games. Sadly, he only appeared in 90 more games with Boston after that season.
But he did manage a career-high 46 goals the following season, along with a second personal best of 135 points.
