March 13th will always be a special day in Boston Bruins history, as the club retired two franchise legends' numbers 43 years ago today.

On this day in 1980, the Bruins retired the numbers 9 for Johnny Bucyk, and 15 for Milt Schmidt. Two players that have done an awful lot for the organization over the years.

Schmidt literally did everything for Boston, as he was a player, coach and manager throughout his career. As a player he appeared in 776 games, registering 229 goals and 346 assists.

Bucyk spent 21 consecutive seasons with the Bruins, finishing his career in 1978 with 1,436 games with Boston, recording 545 goals and 794 assists.

'Chief'' as they call him, still ranks second in franchise history in games played, assists and points, trailing Ray Bourque in all three categories. His 545 goals also rank as the most in Bruins history, 86 ahead of second place Phil Esposito.

He also appeared in 119 games for the Red Wings at the start of his career, collecting 30 points.
