The only time Zac Rinaldo ever dropped the mitts against Shawn Thornton was on this day, on March 9, 2013. Here's why...
In the 2013 matchup between the Flyers and Bruins, Rinaldo took a late run at Boston's Johnny Boychuk when the d-man wasn't looking... and Thornton took notice.
Despite being 13 years older than Rinaldo, the Bruins enforcer made sure dues were paid when his teammates were mistreated, and he never backed away when it came time to make things right.
Here's how Rinaldo's face was introduced to Thornton's right hand, nine years ago today:
Lesson learned?
Rinaldo took such a beating against the Bruins tough guy that there was no chance he'd ever drop the mitts against him after that. Thornton retired four years later.
