The Boston Bruins have a long history, and on this day, two significant moments happened to this storied franchise. Way back in 1930 and then again in 1970.
On April 16th, 1939, the Boston Bruins defeated the Toronto Maple Leafs to win the Stanley Cup.
The Bruins defeated the Maple Leafs 3-1 in game five of the Stanley Cup Final to win the franchise's second championship since its inauguration in 1924.
Roy Conacher became the first NHL player ever to score three straight game-winning goals in a playoff series.
On April 16th, 1970, Bruins legend Bobby Orr broke the record of goals by a defenseman in the Stanley Cup playoffs with seven.
Orr scored twice to break the record of five that he shared with Earl Seibert of the Chicago Blackhawks (1938) and Red Kelly of the Detroit Red Wings (1954).
Orr also became the first and only defenseman in NHL history to score in four straight games. He would finish with nine goals in the 1970 playoffs, a record that held until Paul Coffey scored twelve in 1985 with the Edmonton Oilers.
