The Bruins (45-24-5) are looking to end their current losing streak at three games after taking a tough 3-2 loss to the Ottawa Senators at home on Thursday. The Penguins (43-22-11) on the other hand are looking to build off a solid 6-3 win over the Islanders on Thursday.
On the injury front, star players David Pastrnak and Hampus Lindholm have both began skating but are definitely out against the Pens. After leaving last game during the first intermission, goaltender Linus Ullmark has also been ruled out for today.
On the backend, the B's did get some good news as Brandon Carlo practiced in full yesterday, so all signs point to him joining the B's after sitting out last game. Bruce Cassidy also confirmed that Trent Frederic, who was a healthy scratch against the Sens, is back in the lineup and will take over for Tomas Nosek.
Between the pipes, Boston will obviously roll with Jeremy Swayman (20-12-3) in an attempt to finally clinch their playoff spot. He'll be backed up by call-up Troy Grosenick this afternoon.
Down the other end of the ice, the Penguins, who puched their ticket to the playoffs earlier this week, will start Casey DeSmith (8-4-5). We won't get to see the second round of the Tristan Jarry vs. Brad Marchand affair, as the Pens starter stayed in Pittsburgh with an injury.
Should Carlo be healthy enough to return, he are the Bruins expected lines and pairings for today:
Brad Marchand Patrice Bergeron Jake Debrusk
Taylor Hall Erik Haula Jesper Froden
Trent Frederic Charlie Coyle Craig Smith
Nick Foligno Marc McLaughlin Curtis Lazar
Mike Reilly Charlie McAvoy
Matthew Grzelcyk Brandon Carlo (or Josh Brown)
Derek Forbort Connor Clifton
Jeremy Swayman
Troy Grosenick
Puck drop between the Penguins and Bruins is scheduled for 12:30 pm ET at Boston's TD Garden.
