The legendary Boston Garden was home to Boston Bruins hockey for 67 years, from 1928 to 1995.

Garden spectators saw the Bruins play in the Stanley Cup several times (1929, 1930, 1939, 1941, 1943, 1946, 1953, 1957, 1958, 1970, 1972, 1974, 1977, 1978, 1988, 1990) while they occupied the classic arena.

The building had multiple flaws, however, such as an undersized ice surface, awful sight lines, lack of air conditioning and power outages (especially at crucial moments) made the building all but out of date compared to other team's arenas.

70 years after its construction and three after its predecessor was completed, the Boston Garden was demolished in the spring of 1998. But not before the Bruins played one last game against their rivals.

The Bruins closed the Garden 27 years ago today, with a preseason game against the Montreal Canadiens on September 26th, 1995. Also occurring was a special post-game ceremony, which included many former Bruins greats, as the banners and retired numbers were removed.

The arena remained vacant for three years before it was demolished and served as a parking lot for TD Garden. The spot is now under construction for a commercial development known as 'The Hub on Causway.''
