Just as any organization or workplace prioritizes the safety and well-being of its employees, professional sports leagues must do the same.

This commitment extends to their referees and linesmen, who often find themselves in harm's way due to physical hits and accidental collisions.

However, it appears that this safety protocol wasn't adequately followed in the case of the Swedish Hockey League. Albin Lundin of Timra found himself in a situation where he tripped a linesman during a game against Orebro, resulting in a three-game suspension and a 10,000 Swedish krona fine.

The league provided an official statement, explaining their decision, "The board finds that Albin Lundin was, in any case, indifferent to the collision with the linesman. It should also be noted that Albin Lundin did not even stop after knocking the referee to the ice or take any other notice of the incident."

Following the game, Lundin offered his perspective on the incident, stating,

"After the whistle blew, I looked up at the jumbotron to see what happened. I know I ran into the referee, but I wanted to see with how much force. After that, I went straight up to the official to apologize and tell him it wasn't on purpose. I apologized several times to the linesman."

He added,

"I just tried to move forward when I left the bench; I went straight forward the whole time. You can debate whether I should have seen him, absolutely, but I didn't."

Kimmo Kapanen, the sporting director of Timra, has announced plans to file an appeal.

In light of this incident, the Swedish Hockey League has suspended Albin Lundin of Timr for three games, accompanied by a 10,000 Swedish Krona fine, approximately equivalent to $913 US dollars.
