The Detroit Red Wings have announced that forward Jakub Vrana has been placed in the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.

The Red Wings originally acquired the 26-year-old Czech forward in 2021. Vrana was part of a significant return from the Washington Capitals in exchange for Anthony Mantha. Upon coming to Detroit, Vrana made an immediate impact scoring eight goals and three assists in 11 games.

Following the 2021 season, Vrana signed a contract extension with the Red Wings. He signed a 3-year deal with an AAV of $5.25 Million ahead of the 2021-22 season. Unfortunately, he has been limited to action since playing in only 26 games last season due to a shoulder injury. In his limited time last season, he scored 13 goals and six assists for 19 points.

The gifted forward suited up for two of the Red Wings' games this season, notching a goal and one assist. It's clear that he provides the team with some much-needed offensive production. It is unknown how long Vrana will be away from the organization.

Best wishes go out to Vrana as he seeks help for whatever ailments he may be going through.
