The New York Rangers received news this week that one of their top prospects, Nils Lundkvist, would not be attending training camp. Lundkvist also informed the Rangers that he and his representatives were seeking a trade. Lundkvist felt he would be best suited for a fresh start, and Rangers General Manager Chris Drury agreed to try and make the request happen.

The Rangers are definitely not looking to give Lundkvist away, something they've also refused to do with Vitaly Kravtsov. Last season Kravstov didn't make the Rangers NHL roster, and many teams felt his time with the Rangers was likely finished. The Rangers, though, refused to just cast off valuable talent simply to appease the player.

Now it looks like at least one NHL team is willing to do whatever it takes to try and acquire one or both of the Rangers' disgruntled players. According to Patrick Lortie the Montreal Canadiens are interested in both of the Rangers' prospects.

''Can confirm via an #NHL exec that the #GoHabsGo have been chatting with the #Rangers for weeks now. #Habs are said to be high on Nils Lundkvist and would love to poach Vitaly Kravtsov as well. Not sure if or how they can pull this kind of trade but let's keep an eye open.''

Jeff Gorton, who is now the Executive Vice President of the Canadiens was responsible for drafting both of these players. The familiarity with both players could definitely help the Canadiens in assessing the potential of both players in a possible trade.
