As all Bruins fans know, general manager Don Sweeney wants to add to an already league-leading roster, but money has to be moved to make any trade work.

One team that has the cap space, and the need for a roster play, is the Carolina Hurricanes. According to Sportsnet's Elliotte Friedman, the Hurricanes have called Boston regarding an available forward.

''I believe they've spoken to the Bruins about Smith, as Boston might incentivize Carolina to do it. They are in the market for a depth defender, too.''

Craig Smith, 33, has 4 goals and 6 assists in 42 games this season. The veteran has reportedly been shopped around the league so the Bruins can bring Vladislav Gavrikov in from the Blue Jackets.

Although Smith is perhaps the most expendable player on Boston's roster - besides Mike Reilly - but for some reason, I would hate to see Carolina be his next destination.
