Long-time NHL player Joe Thornton has had an incredible hockey career and is undoubtedly headed to the Hockey Hall of Fame.

He's accomplished everything an NHL player wants to, besides that elusive Stanley Cup he's been chasing for 24 years now, and that chase may not be over quite yet. Reports are that Thornton has a contract offer on the table from a Western Conference team.

That team is the San Jose Sharks, where Thornton was once team captain and spent 15 seasons with. Sharks general manager Mike Grier stated:

''Things are kind of up to him. I don't know if he wants to play or not play; when he figures that out, and his family figures that out, then I'm sure have a conversation with him at some point.''

According to Grier, it's all up to Thornton now, as the club has offered him a contract. Whether it's a PTO, a one-day to retire, or a one-year contract, we'll have to wait and see.

'Jumbo Joe' was originally selected first overall by the Boston Bruins at the 1997 NHL Entry Draft. In 1,714 career NHL games, the 43-year-old has recorded 430 goals and 1,109 assists (1,055 points with the Sharks).
