Veteran Patrick Kane has been at the forefront of NHL trade rumors since this past offseason, as his contract with Chicago Blackhawks is set to expire after this year.

''If I'm a legit Stanley Cup contender, I'm greasing the skids ASAP. I think he definitely gets moved, and the price is only getting higher from here for a guy like him.''

Recent reports are that Sweeney has been trying fairly hard to find a new home for defenseman Mike Reilly, who is currently with the Providence Bruins of the AHL. Along with winger Craig Smith, who has been a healthy scratch for six of the team's 18 games this season. Both players have a cap hit of roughly $3 million.

As per Jimmy Murphy of Boston Hockey Now:

''Patrick Kane and the Bruins make a lot of sense,'' the NHL Exec told BHN. ''The Bruins were all in already, but with this start, I'd say they're full speed ahead and will do whatever it takes to get Patrice Bergeron one more Stanley Cup. They have cap issues now, so they can't really go hard after Kane or anyone, but they need to be laying down the foundation for acquiring a player like that.''

As Murphy stated, captain Bergeron and David Krejci both returned to the Bruins on one-year deals for one more possible ''kick at the can,'' and a Kane trade would all but improve their chances.
