The Buffalo Sabres hosted the Boston Bruins on Sunday night and a moment between Patrice Bergeron and Tage Thompson went viral (read more about it here).
The real reason behind the friendly exchange makes the Bruins captain (somehow) an even better human being.
It was originally thought that Bergeron was recognizing the youngster's recent breakout in the NHL, as he played with Thompson's father, Brent, when he was a teenager in Providence. However, the real reason is so much more special.
Thompson shared that Bergeron asked about his wife, Rachel, and how she was doing after she had a cancerous mass removed from her right leg in January 2019. It clearly meant a lot to him by his comments post-game:
'It's big. Obviously, he didn't have to say anything. He kind of went out of his way to check on her and ask how she's doing. It's just the kind of guy he. He's just a genuine guy, cares about other people.''
