The 2021-22 NHL season was one for the ages!
The goals-per-game across the league rose up to 3.14 for the first time since the 1995-96 season when it finished at the same number. The league saw four players reach 50 goals, with Auston Matthews leading the way with 60 and Leon Draisaitl in second at 55.
In the last full NHL season, there were only two 50-goal scorers, Draisaitl (50) and Alexander Ovechkin (51).
There were also eight players with over 100 points on the season and another eight that had at least 90. According to Instagram page @allhockeyculture, the league saw a more than double increase in point-per-game players from 2020-21 to 2021-22.
