Hockey players don't quite come made like they used to!
There's no doubt that the NHL has evolved into a much more fast-paced and skilled sport, but something about the old days and the fights just gets the excitement going.
This throwback is to a game between the Boston Bruins and the Minnesota North Stars on December 1st, 1977, at the Boston Garden. All hell broke loose 9:26 into the third period from a John Wensink elbow to a North Stars opponent. Three separate fights broke out, and Wensink was eventually thrown out of the game; he didn't go off without stopping by the Minnesota bench, though:
The Bruins would go on to win the game by a score of 4-2. John Wensink was given 27 penalty minutes on the play.
