It appears the Colorado Avalanche will be without defenseman Samuel Girard for the remainder of the playoffs after taking a hit in the opening minutes of game three.
The Avalanche were facing off against the St. Louis Blues in their second-round matchup when Blues forward Ivan Barbashev caught Girard behind the net with a massive hit into the boards.
Girard smacks his head on the boards and the ice and gets crunched very hard on the hit. The defenseman was taken to the hospital, and it was announced after the game that he would miss the remainder of the postseason with a broken sternum.
Tough loss for the Avalanche. Hoping for a speedy recovery for the young d-man!
