The Boston Bruins were hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning in game five of the 2011 Eastern Conference Final, trying to take a 3-2 series lead.
Boston was leading 2-1 with just over 10 minutes remaining in the third period. With Tampa Bay pressing to tie it, Bruins goaltender Tim Thomas made a massive save on Lightning forward Steve Downie to preserve the one-goal lead. One of his 34 saves on the night.
Watch it here:
Rich Peverley would eventually score an empty netter to seal the victory, 3-1 for the Bruins. Boston would go on to win the series in seven games and advance to the Stanley Cup Finals against the Vancouver Canucks. They would win that series in seven games as well for Boston's sixth championship in franchise history. Tim Thomas would also win the Conn Smythe for playoff MVP.
