It appears that the Carolina Hurricanes and Martin Necas will not be parting ways, despite Necas' desire to leave Carolina.

According to GM Eric Tulsky, they will not rule out any potential deal from suitors, but it looks like now that door could be potentially closed, as the regular season approaches.

"It is a lot easier to make trades before July 1 when teams have flexibility to go pivot and sign other players to replace whatever they gave up than it is after July 1 when their roster is mostly built," Tulsky said, per NHL.com. "We are continuing to talk to teams, and we don't want to miss an opportunity to make the team better, but teams have less flexibility now than they had in June, so it's harder to find a deal now than it was then."

Necas filed for arbitration this summer, and Tulsky and the team hope they avoid it. They have introduced term available from one year to eight-years for Necas, hopefully alleviating the stress of arbitration for both parties.

Necas's name has been since the start of the off-season in trade rumors, attached to multiple teams, but nothing has manifested. The 25-year-old had requested a trade and wanted a fresh start, but being an RFA makes it a bit difficult for the Czech forward. This has been one of Necas' most productive seasons, posting 24 goals and 53 points, while continuing the production in the playoffs with 4 goals and 9 points in 11 playoff games.

After the termination of Evgeny Kuznetsov's contract, the team has $14 Million in cap space, which the lion's share should go to Seth Jarvis and Martin Necas.

"I think we're comfortable with what we have," Tulsky said. "Right now, our focus is on getting our last couple of RFAs signed. We are continuing to talk to teams about trade possibilities and looking at what's left out there. There is time left in the summer, so we are still looking under every rock trying to make the team better.

"But I think the most likely outcome right now is that we have our group unless something surprising comes up."

Tulsky appears to be comfortable with their roster, and won't tinker with it any further it sounds like. For now, the Canes are set for 2024-2025.

Another case of Don Sweeney, not able to make a deal for a high-end forward, even though he traded Linus Ullmark for Joonas Korpisalo, Mark Kastelic and Dean Letourneau(25th overall, 2024).
