The NHL recently lost two legends and Hall of Famers to cancer.

First, it was Mike Bossy, a New York Islanders great, who passed away on April 15th after a long battle with lung cancer. Most recently, just this past weekend, the hockey world lost Guy Lafleur, a Montreal Canadiens icon, to lung cancer as well.

Players like Lafleur and Bossy had the kind of careers that young hockey fans want to grow up to be like. Boston Bruins head coach Bruce Cassidy spoke about the impact that deaths of legends like that can have on the hockey world and current NHL players.

Cassidy discussed the similarities he sees in one of his current players and Guy Lafleur:

"I see a guy like Pasta, reminds a bit of Guy Lafleur. He kind of marches to the beat of his own drum; the smile on his face every day, creative hockey player, big shot down the wing, a goal scorer that comes through ... I hate to do that, compare a Montreal Canadien, but Guy Lafleur to me was a great hockey player ... and at the end of the day, I loved the way he played the game."

In a moment where the hockey world mourns the deaths of hockey heroes like Lafleur and Bossy, it's also a time when fans can celebrate the lives and careers of the legends that made the game the way it is today.
